Some free keyword tools

keywords February 28th, 2008

Keywords are an important part of any webmasters strategy to increase traffic to their site.Search engines like Google and Yahoo use search engine spiders also called to robots to crawl the millions of web pages which are created and updated daily and add them to their database .These search engine spiders look for specific keywords and phrases on a web page and display results accordingly, when somebody types the specific keyword ,phrase or even related words.Usually whenever we start doing research on keywords and and variations we tend to hesitate a bit in subscribing to paid keyword research tools like wordtracker, wordze, keyworddiscovery. Here I have mentioned a few keyword research tools which are free and ,and will help many of the new webmasters in getting a feel of the keyword research and what you should look for ultimately in a paid keyword tool. This is not a exhaustive list but a small one which I have come across.

Google adwords keyword tool
Google’s own keyword tool .Simple but highly efficient tool for keyword research.

Rushmore’s advanced keyword research tool
This is an online keyword research tool which is based on wordtracker .There is no need to sign up or anything.Just type the word or phrase you want to research about and hit the button. You will see results showing in a neat table the number of searches for the particular keyword or phrase and the number of sites competing for the keyword and another cool stat i.e number of pages actually optimized for a particular keyword, from which you can gauge the difficulty in ranking high on Google for that keyword. It’s not the total number of sites which contain the keywords that matters it’s the number of sites which are optimized for a particular keyword that matter. The more the number of sites optimized for a particular keyword the more difficult it will be for you to rank high for that keyword. So look for keywords which have a high search volume and less number of ideal sites and a high KEI (keyword effectiveness). It also shows data in two separate columns for keyword strings and keyword phrase .Let me explain the keyword strings and keyword phrase concept with a example. Imagine you typed a term “making money online” the keyword phrase column shows the searches for the exact word typed in that particular order and keyword string shows data to words typed in any order.I hope I have made it clear. It’s a very good to start with initially .It also has a forum ,but not much is going on there.

seodigger.com

I found a link to this tool on this site. What it does is it accepts a url from the user and it shows the keywords for which that site ranks within the top 20 Google search results. You can sneak on your competitors blog or site and find out what keywords it ranks for highly in Google.Obviously you can also check whether your site’s keyword rank within the Google top 20.

Googlerankings.com
The wonderful thing about Google rankings is some really wonderful articles regarding making your page Google friendly and also regarding how to go about keyword research itself .It has the usual keyword tools and you need to have SOAP API Key to use the tool which I couldn’t understand, what it is , after following the links given on the web-site .You can have a look at it.

Iwebtool It’s a collection of various kind of tools like keyword suggestion, keyword density checker,Google pagerank checker and many more. This keyword tool comes as a mozilla extension also.Quiet handy and lot of fun.
